Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA is one of the best known road courses in the world. Each year, it has over 300,000 visitors from all over the United States and the rest of world. It also among the most visually impressive racing facilities in the country, boasting 2.54 miles of track with twelve turns sitting inside 750 acres of forested, park-like terrain.
Road Atlanta hosts important events like Superbike Showdown and Petit Lemans, as well as amateur races, training schools, corporate activities, and testing sessions for motorsports teams.
Among the amateur races at Road Atlanta are those held by the BMW Car Club of America. These races are fiercely competitive and highlight up-and-coming talents who often go on to become professional drivers. Each racing class is divided by type of car, and each car is held to the same specifications; this guarantees that all of the tooth-and-nail competition on display is between the abilities of the drivers—not the price tags of their cars.
Lamin-x’s own CEO Chris Wadle has been involved with these races for several years. This past weekend, he competed in the Spec E36 class and secured first place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday’s race was of particular note, since he entered unqualified, starting him squarely at the back of the pack . This did not stop him from climbing his way to first position for an exciting win that seemed to predict the rest of the weekend.
On a 90 degree late summer day the inside of these cars can be as hot as 120 degrees, wringing every ounce of sweat and energy from the drivers’ bodies by the end of each race. But, as grueling as the competition can be for its human participants, it is even more so for their cars. As drivers jockey for position at high speed, they sometimes scrape their cars together by accident (usually), causing ugly and expensive damage to the paint.
When drivers find themselves veering off track in front of another stray car, their headlights and front ends are pelted by a rain of rocks and dirt chunks that can crack lights and dent hoods and bumpers.
It is during these times when our Lamin-x films are of great use, as they were originally designed for these conditions. Just a thin layer of paint protection on the hood and bumper and a Lamin-x film cover on the headlights can significantly help protect against these typical but costly incidents in racing competitions.
In the heat of battle against those other drivers, you want all of your focus to be on the skillful handling of your vehicle, not the dollar signs attached to every piece of road debris flung your way. With Lamin-x protecting your investment, you won’t have to worry about how much it’s going to cost you when that rookie in front of you makes a mistake.
